Forest of the Future is a time-based performance centered on the devastating effects of climate change and the gradual destruction of nature. Through immersive installations and confronting experiences, the performance invites the audience to reflect on a possible future where little to no natural environment remains. It aims not only to raise awareness but to evoke a visceral sense of loss and urgency.
As part of this project, I designed a poster to visually introduce the performance’s tone and message, and I contributed two installations: one solo piece titled “Wasteland of Echoes”, and one collaborative work titled “Inhale the Last Piece of Nature”.
Wasteland of Echoes
This installation immerses the viewer in a dead, dystopian forest. As participants walk through the performance space, they encounter upright branches arranged like trees which are partially replaced with hollow tubes containing flickering lights. These artificial, pulsing lights disturb the natural flow, creating a harsh and disorienting experience. At the entrance to the installation, a projection of burning forests and scorched nature plays on a loop, serving as a stark warning of ecological collapse. The entire setting is designed to be visually and emotionally unsettling—a forest stripped of life, echoing the irreversible damage caused by human impact.
Inhale the Last Piece of Nature
This collaborative installation presents a dark vision of the future in which clean air and unspoiled nature have become luxuries. The work consists of a sealed box with a single opening, an invitation for the viewer to place their head inside. Within the confined space, one can smell and breathe in the scent of real plants, soil, and greenery. Outside this box, toxic fumes, smog, and artificial environments dominate. The piece reflects a world in which nature has been reduced to something rare, contained, and inaccessible. Kept alive in isolation rather than flourishing in the open air.
Together, the performance and its installations challenge the audience to confront the reality of ecological degradation. By stripping away comfort and immersing participants in unsettling environments, Forest of the Future serves as both a warning and a call to action—reminding us what we stand to lose if we fail to change.
