Artist statement
Lianne Regtuit (1996, Enschede, The Netherlands) is a biobased artist and designer whose practice lies at the intersection of science, nature, and art. She has a background in Graphic Design and Product Design. Driven by a deep curiosity, her work explores the invisible forces that shape our world: from cosmic systems and plant roots to microbial life.
Her work reveals the hidden beauty of bacteria and fungi, offering a perspective in which decay becomes a form of creation. Using spores collected from everyday surroundings, she cultivates these organisms on nutrient-rich agar, allowing them to grow into intricate structures and visual patterns. These natural formations are then translated into prints, preserved specimens, and microscopic visuals, creating an immersive experience that blurs the line between art and biology.
Through her artistic research, Lianne invites viewers to slow down and reconnect with the often-overlooked details of the living world. By evoking a sense of wonder, her work encourages a shift in perception. Fostering respect and awareness for all forms of life, both visible and invisible. Her aim is to spark change: inspiring more sustainable, attentive relationships with nature through artful storytelling and material experimentation.
